What we do...

Set in the grounds of our 500 year old II* listed farmhouse, on the edge of Dartmoor in between Plymouth and Tavistock. We pride ourselves on being the ultimate garden party wedding venue.

You can have your ceremony either in our picturesque stone barn, or in our walled garden, which also plays host to your reception with our beautiful marquee, colourful flowerbeds, established trees, lawns for garden games, a swing and a fire pit for toasting marshmallows.

You will have a fire cooked feast produced from our open fire kitchen within the garden, and fabulous cocktails from our bar.

We host weddings on Saturdays only from May – September to insure you are getting the best from the garden and grounds - For 70 to 120 guests.

We are not a wedding conveyor belt, as we only host up to 10 weddings a year. meaning you are not just another number to us, we have time to get to know you and focus on your special day.

Ceremonies

We are a licensed venue and for your ceremony you have the option to choose from either our old stone barn, with views out over the Tamar Valley to Cornwall, or the open air of our beautiful walled garden.

We have props that you can use free of charge to make your ceremony look stunning. Including lanterns, an arch and peacock chairs.

If you are looking for a religious ceremony there are many churches locally, including our lovely parish church St Andrews at Buckland Monachorum.

Unfortunately due to the ceremony space in the barn being on the first floor we are unable to provide wheelchair access due to the heritage nature of the barn.

Reception

Wedding receptions are held in our Walled Garden. Guests are always amazed to find behind the walls there is a vast secret garden, with pretty flowers, delicious smells and a beautiful marquee.

There is plenty of space for garden games to be played while canapés and bubbles are flowing, and a swing to be enjoyed by guests of all ages.

Our marquee can either be open sided for the best indoor/outdoor vibes or with the sides on which have panoramic windows so you will still feel like you are out in the garden regardless of the weather.

We have rustic wooden trestle tables and chairs, place mats, candle holders and other props that you can choose to use free of charge to make your tables look beautiful for your sit down meal. We are real foodies here at Uphill Farm. Our Fire kitchen within the walled garden will be where all your food will come from, your guests will love the smells and keep coming up to see how everything is being cooked.

New to 2024 is our new sound system which includes speakers and microphones for your background music and speeches, and a state of the art zone array directional speakers over the dance floor that your band or Dj can plug into. Alternatively you can play your own playlist through it. It means that when you step away off the dance floor the music will not be so loud, meaning that guests can still hear to each other (great for multi generational weddings).

Food

We are all about food at Uphill Farm. We have an open fire kitchen within the walled garden and guests love coming to see their food being cooked over the flames. We also make our charcuterie from our own free-range rare breed pigs, to be served on our canapés, sharing boards and wood- fired pizzas.

We love serving an abundance of hearty canapés to your guests as they socialise around the garden. Your main meal will be served family style to the tables, on sharing boards and bowls which encourages everyone to talk. Popular choices are our smoked beef picanha with chimichirri sauce and beautiful seasonal pavlovas.

In the evening we serve food from our fire kitchen, meaning guest can come up to order when they want. A very popular option is our pizzas served from our wood fired oven. The slow fermented dough is hand stretched, topped and cooked in front our your guests eyes. Our wood fired oven gets extremely hot so they are cooked in about a minute. They are delicious especially topped with our homemade smoked chorizo.

We will tailor your food to be as individual as you two. Please look at our Fire, Cure & Feast tab to see example menu options to get an idea of what we do.

Drink

We supply a fully stocked bar and make a tailored cocktail menu for every couple. Espresso martinis are a firm guest favourite.

We do not charge corkage for your welcome/toast bubbles and table wine, and we will chill and serve it for you as part of the service. You can either source it yourselves or we can organise it through our wine merchant.

Flowers & Decorations

We have a multitude of props and decorations here to make your wedding beautiful. From placemats to lanterns, candle stick and tea light holders, to croquet, peacock chairs and an antique gong to announce speeches.

If you love seasonal flowers we can do you bouquet, buttonholes and table flowers from our cutting garden, we have lots of pretty vases too.

If you want the real wow factor we have many fabulous local florists who can do fabulous installations and arches, as well as stunning bouquets, flower crowns etc.

Location & Accommodation

Conveniently situated between Plymouth and Tavistock, we are easily accessible by not only taxis but also public transport, being a short walk from bus stops linking directly to Plymouth Train station, Tavistock and further a field.

We do not have accommodation on site but there are a multitude of b&bs, small hotels and airbnbs locally in Yelverton, Milton Combe and Buckland Monachorum. We also have two budget friendly hotels less than 10 minutes away. With central Plymouth & Tavistock being less than 20 minutes away, you and your guests will have a wide range of options.

Although Taxis from both Plymouth and Tavistock come to Uphill Farm, we encourage the use of more sustainable travel so we can help organise coaches that can pick up your guests and drop them back at the end of the night if you wish.
